Do you need some extra writing help?

The HCC Writing Center is a free service for HCC students, faculty, and staff. We offer assistance and guidance with written assignments and projects in a variety of academic disciplines. Our writing consultants and trained student tutors can help with:

  • The writing process stages (prewriting, discovery drafting, revising, editing/proofreading, and publishing)
  • References and citations
  • Annotated bibliographies
  • Research strategies

The Writing Center consultants and tutors can also assist students, faculty, and staff discover an array of helpful online writing resources.

The HCC Writing Center, coordinated by Katherine Woods (270-831-9646), is a free service for students, faculty, and staff. Writing assistance and guidance with written assignments/projects is offered in a variety of academic disciplines. Writing consultants and trained student tutors help with any stage of the writing process: brainstorming, outlining, revision, and editing along with citations and annotated bibliographies. 

Where is the Writing Center?

The Writing Center’s mission is to help writers of all skill levels and in all disciplines develop and use effectively writing processes that will serve them for a lifetime.

The Center is in the Administration Bldg., Room ADM 205. You may also email your paper, assignment instructions, phone number, and description of the type of feedback you are looking for.

The Writing Center email addressed is monitored between 9 AM and 3 pm, Monday through Thursday. The writing consultants are experienced faculty, staff, and students with a passion for writing and teaching. They are trained and interested in helping all Center patrons grow in their writing experience. Email received Sunday through Thursday at noon is typically responded to within 24 hours; email received at noon on Thursday may not receive a response until Monday morning. 

Do you want to work in the Writing Center?

Students who have completed ENG101 and ENG102 with an A or a B and qualify for work-study employment aid (fill out an application with the Financial Aid office) are welcome to apply as peer tutors. Faculty Information: Writing Center Classroom Visit 

All faculty at HCC can request a visit from the writing center. The visit will consist of a ten-minute-long presentation that introduces the services the writing center provides. We also answer student questions and present information about employment opportunities. Additional requests for different types of classroom presentations are accepted.
