INTRODUCTION The Pathfinder to the Library I is an online workbook designed to help Henderson Community College English 101 students acquire basic skills in using an academic library. The workbook is divided into nine sections: 1. Defining Your Topic: 2. Using the Library of Congress Classification System 3. Finding Books: 4. Finding Articles in Periodicals:
5. Finding Audio-Visual Materials 6. Finding Special Collection Materials 7. Using Electronic Databases*: 8. Library Maps: Appendix 1 -- Basic Research Strategy *Please note that given the speed of changes in available electronic databases and services, it is impossible to discuss every database available in this library. Those electronic sources covered in this Pathfinder are both very useful in themselves and also are representative of how to use other electronic sources available here or in other libraries. You are to complete this online workbook within the time
period specified by your instructor. If
you have difficulty with any section, ask your instructor or a library staff
member for assistance. When you have finished the workbook, go to the online exam and answer
the questions using the research topic assigned to you. This is "REAL
EXAM" that will be graded and returned to your instructor.
Please do your work independently on this exam. Students caught cheating
will be subjected to the same rules outlined in the KCTCS Student Code of
Conduct. Satisfactory completion
of the workbook is a requirement of English 101. Student Survey of the Pathfinder I workbook - http://www.hencc.kctcs.edu/survey/path1_0708.htm |
