Learning From Other Libraries |
Objective To understand the learning movement and identify the best practices performed by other learning-centered libraries. |
Barbara
Stripling
Stripling explains the processes of learning, and the problems libraries
encounter when attempting to apply research concepts to planning and teaching.
She focuses on individual instruction and advocates that teachers and librarians
participate in “collaborative planning and teaching” to be effective in helping
students with their learning processes (Stripling, 1995, 169).
Survey of Vanguard College Libraries
The survey sent to the library directors of the vanguard colleges in March 2003 consisted of the following questions:
Cynthia
Fugate, Library Director at Cascadia Community College (WA)
“Hungry people can’t concentrate, so we let students eat in the library. Tired
people can’t concentrate, so we let them nap in the library.”
