HCC Offering Introduction to Equine Management Course

Henderson Community College is again offering an introductory class for anyone interested in horse care. The class is a for-credit course and will be held from on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 pm on the main campus of HCC. The class offers hands-on experience with local and regional state-of-the-art equine facilities. The class is being taught by Hannah Clifton whose family operated a cattle operation in Muhlenberg County, KY. Hannah has experience raising, starting and showing quarter horses. The class will work closely with Gumz Farms, REM Horses and Deer Hollow Stables studying horse behavior, barn management, horse safety and quarter horse breeding operations. In addition, the class will spend two days in Lexington at operations like Claiborne Farms and Mill Iron Farm. At the farms in Lexington, the class will learn about the thoroughbred horse industry. In addition, they will learn about horse rehabilitation from correcting behavioral problems, reprogramming ex-race horses and horse fitness utilizing swimming pool exercise and treadmills.
