Dental Hygiene FAQ

When is the application deadline?

March 1st of each year. Applications must be postmarked prior to or on March 1st to be considered for admission.

Can I apply to more than one site?

Yes - you may apply to one or more or all sites, please check the sites you wish to be considered for admission on the application and rank them in order of preference.

Can I apply to both the dental assisting and dental hygiene program at the same time?

Yes, just be sure to complete the separate applications and remember that each program has different requirements and that you will have to apply to both Henderson Community College and West Kentucky Community and Technical College. All hygiene applications must be mailed to Henderson Community College and all assisting applications must be mailed to West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

What can I do to enhance my chances of being accepted into the dental hygiene program?

Score as many points as you can in each of the selective admission point categories. If you have taken general education courses included in the program curriculum and did not make an A or B - you may consider retaking them to get a higher grade. If your ACT score is at the lower end of the point spread, you may consider retaking it to get a higher score. Enroll in general education courses that are included in the the dental hygiene curriculum.

When and how will I find out if I have been accepted to the program?

If you are accepted to the program you will receive an acceptance letter around or before mid April.

How can I get a program application?

Contact Karen Guess via email or phone at 270-831-9708.

If I do not have 12 college hours completed can I apply?

Yes, however, you will not receive points in the Cumulative GPA or Curriculum GPA if you do not have at least 12 or more college credit hours. Developmental course work does not count toward the required 12 or more college credit hours.

If I do not meet the minimum ACT score or GPA, can I still apply?

Yes, however, you will not receive points in the categories where you do not meet the minimum score or GPA.

If I have already taken the general education courses in the dental hygiene program, do I have to repeat them if I get accepted to the program?

No, you do not have to repeat general education courses already taken. If you received a grade of "D" or lower in the science courses in the curriculum, you would have to retake them if you were accepted. Those science courses include BIO 137, BIO 139, and BIO 225.
