Agricultural Technology
The Agricultural Technology program includes a one-year certificate and a two-year Associate in Applied Science degree with a core of courses common to both. The core includes a general education component central to collegiate education and technical courses. Students receive an introduction to theory, skills, and techniques required by the agricultural industry. Topics covered include: fertilizers and soils, animal science, agricultural equipment, machines, and engines, agricultural power, issues in agriculture, and crop production. Internships provide students with real-world application experience.
The purpose of the one-year certificate is to provide the student with basic introductory skills and knowledge for entry into the field of agriculture. The certificate program will emphasize introductory knowledge and skills in agriculture issues and soils, power, and machine operation and maintenance. Graduates of this program will fill positions such as farm machinery operators, fertilizer application operators, and fertilizer batch formulators.
The purpose of the two-year Associate in Applied Science degree is to introduce students to the many facets of the agriculture industry. Students will study a broad range of issues, skills, and knowledge with emphasis given to problem solving, communication, and analytical abilities. Graduates of this program would fill positions such as farm managers, agribusiness managers, certified crop managers, chemical representatives, implement dealership representatives, and sales.
These programs prepare the student with a range of skills and knowledge useful for jobs in agriculture and related occupations. The agriculture industry provides a variety of employment opportunities, ranging from ones requiring minimal skills to ones requiring complex knowledge and decision-making skills.
