Academic Programs
Agricultural Technology
The agricultural technology program includes a one year certificate and a two-year associate degree. These programs prepare the student with a range of skills and knowledge useful for jobs in agriculture and related occupations. The agriculture industry provides a variety of employment opportunities, ranging from ones requiring minimal skills t ones requiring more complex knowledge and decision-making skills.
Business Technology
The two-year Associate Degree in Business Technology is designed for those who seek entry level jobs as well as for current employed individuals who wish to enhance their skills. A core of courses provides a foundation of general and business knowledge.
Clinical Laboratory Technician
This program provides students with the background to perform microbiological, cellular, and chemical analyses on various body fluids. They learn to perform tests in such areas as blood banking, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, and urinalysis. The curriculum combines general education and clinical laboratory education with practical experience gained in the campus laboratories and clinical facilities.
Dental Assisting & Dental Hygiene
A graduate of this accredited dental hygiene program is prepared to apply for the state licensing examination in order to become a licensed dental hygienist. Career opportunities are available in federal, state, and local public health programs. The majority of dental hygienists are employed in private practice.
Information Technology
This program offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree and Certificates in IT Fundamentals, Computer Programming, Network Administration, Database Administration, and Electronic Commerce. This curriculum is supported by a solid foundation of core courses that focus on problem solving and communications skills for Information Technology professionals involved in computer network environments.
Industrial & Engineering Tech
The program gives individuals the background to work as assistants to engineers, liaisons between engineers and skilled craftsmen, and plant maintenance specialists. The full curriculum combines specialized and related science courses with course work in general education. Individual classes will be developed and offered in three areas of specialization: industrial maintenance, manufacturing, and apprenticeship studies.
This program is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the workplace. The technician must have a good base of technical knowledge to enable him or her to understand and apply the changing technology. The core courses offered in this program will allow the student to advance in new and emerging areas of technology.
Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education
This course of study is designed to develop understanding of young children and their needs. The goal of the program is to give students knowledge of the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional principles critical to working with young children along with the opportunity to apply this knowledge through practical experiences in a variety of early care and education setting.
Medical Assistant Program
This program prepares students for entry into the Medical Assistant field and related occupations. Students learn to perform business duties consistent with the medical office environment, insurance coding, billing, computer applications for word processing and database management, office reception, and patient scheduling functions.
Nursing Program
The Associate Degree Nursing program prepares graduates to provide and manage client care and to become members in the discipline of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Graduates from the Henderson Community College Nursing Program consistently score at or above the norm on the national licensure examination.
The Practical Nursing program prepares individuals to practice within the legal scope of practical nursing under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Use of
the nursing process at the practical nursing level is toward the maintenance of health
and prevention of illness, the observation and nursing care of persons experiencing changes
in their health and the evaluation of patient health practices.
Associate Degree Programs
Henderson Community College offers programs of study equivalent to the sequences of courses taken in the first two years at four-year colleges and universities. These college transfer programs allow students to spend their first two years of study for a baccalaureate degree in an academic institution that is close to home and reasonable in cost.
