R.N. Nursing - Admission Procedures
Applicants must meet the following admission criteria prior to March 1 for consideration for the Fall Semester in NSG 101 and July 1 for consideration for the Spring Semester in NSG 101.
- Attend a scheduled Pre-Admission Conference.*
- Complete a Personal Data Form (completed at the Pre-Admission Conference).
- Submit a "current" application to the college.
- Submit high school transcripts or official GED scores.
- Submit transcripts of all post-high school education.
- Submit results of the ACT or SAT or Career Planning Program (CPP).
* Pre-Admission Conference
Dates for the conferences are the first Wednesday in September and November and the third Wednesday in January, February, May, and June. The conferences are held in the Academic/Technical Building, Room 306 on Henderson Community College's campus. Each session begins at 4:00 p.m. and lasts one hour.
Consideration Process
In addition to the application procedures listed, the process to be considered for the Nursing Program is as follows:
- Complete all requirement procedures prior to deadline.
- Receive and return "Letter of Interest".
- Receive and return "Verification Form".
- Receive notification regarding admission status.
- If accepted, return "Letter of Acceptance/Rejection".
Admission
Preference may be given to applicants with the following credentials:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in 12 or more hours of college work.
- A high school class ranking in the upper 50 percent or a GED standard score of 50 or better.
- A composite standard score of 20 or above on the ACT or equivalent on the SAT, or a lower range score of 20 on the CPP.
- A Kentucky resident or live within the Henderson Community College service area.
Guaranteed Admission Policy
Students may be eligible for early guaranteed admission to the nursing program. Qualified applicants who have met the necessary requirements outlined in the Henderson Community College AD Nursing admission process and who have a cumulative score of 60 on the HCC AD Nursing Selective Admission Point System may be considered. Copies of the Selective Admission Point System are given to attendees at the Pre-Admission Conference.
All required documents must be current in the admissions office before the guaranteed admission status can be determined. Applicants will be notified either in writing or via email of admission to the Nursing Program.
Pre-requisites
The following will be required prior to admission to the program:
- Documentation of successful completion of a minimum 75 hour nursing assistant course or its equivalent.
- Documentation of computer literacy. This may be through a course of study or challenge exam.
Additional Requirements
The following will be required after admission to the program:
- Indiana and Kentucky Criminal Checks
- Hepatitis and Tetanus Immunizations
- AHA BLS Healthcare Provider CPR Certification or ARC Professional CPR Certification
- The following laboratory tests: CBC*, Urinalysis*, TB Skin Test*, Urine Drug Screen*, Pertussis, Varicella, Rubella and Rubeola Titre
The Varicella, Rubella and Rubeola Titre may be waived if documentation can be provided of receipt of the MMR series and personal knowledge of having chicken pox.
*Labwork Must be within the past year
